Get water out of your phone speaker
Speaker sounds muffled after rain, a splash or the shower? Play the water eject tone below. The low 165 Hz sound shakes the speaker and pushes water out through the grill. Free, works in your browser on Android and iPhone.
Set volume to max, speaker facing down, then press Start.
Tip: on iPhone, turn off silent mode first, or the tone will not play.
How to eject water from a phone speaker
- Take the case off and wipe the outside of the phone dry.
- Turn the volume all the way up. On iPhone, turn off silent mode.
- Hold the phone with the speaker grill facing down so gravity helps the water drip out.
- Press Start water eject and let it run for the full minute. You may see tiny droplets appear on the grill.
- Play a song or video to test. Still muffled? Run it again, then let the phone air dry for a few hours.
Speaker Cleaner: Water Eject for Android
Always at hand, even offline. The app raises the volume for you, forces the phone's own speaker even with headphones connected, adds vibration for stubborn water, and has a test sound to check the result.
Get the Android appWhy a 165 Hz tone pushes water out
A phone speaker is a small cone that moves back and forth to make sound. Low tones make it move much further than high tones. At around 165 Hz the cone pumps air hard enough to push water droplets through the speaker mesh, the same way the Water Lock feature on Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch clears its speaker. Pulsing the tone on and off breaks the surface tension that keeps droplets stuck, and a short low sweep shakes loose whatever is left.
Remove dust from your phone speaker
Dust and pocket lint make calls and music sound dull. Choose Dust Clean above: it sweeps from 200 Hz to 2500 Hz so different parts of the mesh vibrate. Afterwards, brush the grill gently with a soft, dry toothbrush. Never push pins or needles into the speaker holes.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get water out of my phone speaker?
Remove the case, wipe the phone, turn it so the speaker faces down, set the volume to maximum and play the 165 Hz water eject tone for about a minute. Then let the phone air dry.
What frequency ejects water from a speaker?
Around 165 Hz works best. It moves the speaker cone further than higher tones, so it pushes more water out. Pulsing the tone helps break droplets loose.
Does the water eject sound really work?
For light splashes, rain or sweat it usually clears muffled sound in one or two runs. It cannot repair a phone that was fully submerged for a long time or a speaker that is physically damaged. If the sound does not come back after the phone is dry, visit a repair shop.
Is it safe to play the tone at full volume?
Yes, phone speakers are designed to play at full volume. Keep the phone away from your ears while the tone plays and run it about a minute at a time.
Should I put a wet phone in rice?
No. Phone makers including Apple advise against it: rice does not dry the phone faster and its dust can get into the ports. Shake out the water, use the water eject tone and let the phone air dry.
Can sound remove dust from a phone speaker?
Yes, a frequency sweep can shake loose dust and lint in the speaker mesh. Use Dust Clean mode, then brush the grill with a soft dry toothbrush.
Does this work on iPhone and Samsung?
Yes. The tone plays from any browser on iPhone, Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus and other phones. On iPhone, turn off silent mode first.
